I have a beautiful yellow rose bush in my backyard that grows like a weed! It can get out of control.
I have to cut it back constantly. And I always feel bad because it's just so pretty! So this year I want to do what I can to shape the rose bush and make it stand out! Before it just had this metal trellis that was obviously too small for this monster.
Can you see it hiding in there? Yeah it wasnt doing the job. So after some brainstorming I decided to get some wood trellis similar to what we have over next to the side patio.
I bought a 4 x 8 of trellis and two 2x4s that were also 8 feet long... Once I got home I realized the 2x4s should have been a little longer since they had to go in the ground but oh well. :)
I also originally wanted to only trim the dead stuff off the bush and wind the branches into the trellis but after standing it up next to the bush, I realized the bush was just way too big! So I had to just cut it down and will guide the new growth through the trellis as it comes. It was very sad to have to cut so much back! Out of all the times I've done it for some reason this time felt like I was butchering it! I know it will be better in the long run though. So this is what it looks like now!
I cant wait for the new growth and the pretty yellow roses this year! And this was just the project to get me in the mode of gardening :) Tomorrow will be working on relocating the shrubs in front of our porch to the garden bed at the corner of our front yard. That's going to be an ongoing project though I'm sure! Cant wait to share how it turns out.
