I started a devotional last week called frumps to pumps. Of course I started it last week but keep forgetting so I'm only on day 4 :) It's basically encouraging women to get dressed! Feel better about yourself, be more productive.
The idea of getting dressed up for the day somehow turns into an occasional thing since I've become a stay at home mom/wife. When I worked full time I was dressed nice every day! And who was I dressing for? Well for starters I most certainly could not show up in whatever I pleased. You don't go to work in jammies, or workout gear. Those are the rules. You're dressed nicely for your boss, co-workers, customers, clients, etc. You're representing the company you work for! You want to look presentable, respectable, and just plain put together.
So when I turned that around to how am I representing my home, my family and my faith? I have to admit I am pretty embarrassed. My typical look for each day is workout gear, or lounge wear with my hair up in a bun, or ponytail. Whether or not I actually worked out! How can I expect to be respected, or taken seriously from anyone when I'm not taking myself seriously? If I'm not caring about myself, am I properly caring for my home and family?
"...whatever you do, do it all for the Glory of God"
1 Corinthians 10:31
Am I glorifying God when I dress frumpy most of the time and don't care how I'm perceived by others? No, God does not care how I'm dressed, and nor does it matter what other's think of me, but I have to ask myself if I'm doing my best when I get dressed for my day. What am I trying to accomplish each day? I want to glorify God! I want everything I do to be for Him first. Shouldn't I do my best to at least look pretty? In my heart I know I did not do my best when I simply throw on a slightly wrinkled outfit, and push my hair back into a ponytail to make sure I get out the door in time.
The same goes for my husband. Shouldn't I want to please him and be my very best for him? Doesn't he deserve to come home to the girl he fell in love with that would be dressed cute just to see him, and not a frumpy wife? And should you actually feel pretty perhaps you will be in the mood too when your hubby is ;) Which we all know is ALWAYS! LOL. (Hey we're being honest here right?!)
And shouldn't Caden see me at my best too? And learn what it means to respect yourself and represent your family in a positive way?
For me the answers to these questions is a big YES! And don't you just feel more productive when you are dressed ready to tackle the day? Ready if someone should drop by, or if you need to drive to the store really quick? No fear if you should run into someone you know!
I had heard and read many blogs and articles regarding the subject of getting dressed for the day for us homemakers. But for some reason it never clicked until I compared it to how I was representing God and my family. Do I want to be a frump? No, no I dont. Do I have to be a fashionista? Absolutely not! But whatever I wear I will be dressed for success and Glorifying God in ALL THAT I DO.
