Happy 6 year Anniversary!

Yes this post is very late, but I’ve had some buggy issues with my very old laptop, and blogging on the ipad just doesn’t work when adding pictures.

Anyway August 5th marked our 6 year anniversary!  And to be honest we both almost completely forgot!  Not because we don’t care, but because we already celebrated back in May with a fabulous trip to Italy!!  Saying it was fun is an understatement.  It was a much needed trip filled with laughter, romance, and time together to just be US!

My dad was able to come stay and take care of Caden, the house and doggies so we could go to the Italian coast.  Just typing that makes me feel like a millionaire!

We spent a week in Italy, including Naples, Amalfi and Sorrento.

The food of course was amazing.  The pizza on the left was our first meal in Italy and by far our favorite!  The breakfast on the right was what we were able to enjoy each morning while in Amalfi.  Amalfi was our favorite part of the trip.  If we could do it all again, we would have stayed there the whole time!

valley view

We hiked through the mountains in Amalfi to neighboring towns and this was one of the many breathtaking views.

Our first night in Amalfi we ate at a beautiful little restaurant overlooking the water. (Pic on the left)  And the pic on the right is from our hike.  We climbed so many stairs!  My legs didn’t start screaming until the last leg of the hike which was up these stairs to see the ruins of a cathedral.

I couldn’t get over how many beautiful ruins there were and how everyone just lived right next to it.  Day in, day out, just walking past structures that were built thousands of years ago.  It reminded me of how young the U.S. really is!  This cathedral looks like it’s by itself on the mountain, but there are houses all around it.  Literally two steps away.  Absolutely breathtaking.

ruins

This was some castle ruins built by a Spanish Queen.  We were able to hike to it and walk along the wall and around the tower.  We wouldn’t have even known it was there had we not run into a sweet old man who spoke amazing english and told us the history of the castle.  Then as we turned back around to find the path we ran into an English couple who were looking for the same ruins.  So we buddied up and hiked together for a while.

The hike was probably about 4 – 5 hours total.  And there was still so much we didn’t get to see!  Everywhere you look there is ruins and scenery and history.

pompeii

We got to visit Pompeii too!  That’s Mt. Vesuvius behind us.  I couldn’t get over that it’s still active and there’s still a huge population living at the base of it.  Walking around the ruins of Pompeii was so incredible! The detail that you could still see in the pillars and buildings was unbelievable.

water

On our last full day we took a boat tour around the coast and to the Isle of Capri.  If you take a trip to the coast, get a boat and view the sights from the water too.  It’s beautiful.

blue water   waterfall

The water was so blue. And hearing the history of the ruins we passed on the coastline was awesome. The picture on the right is a natural fresh waterfall.  Normally they let you get out and swim at the waterfall but it was still pretty cold so maybe next time Winking smile

blue grotto   in the blue cave

We got to tour a cave called the Blue Grotto.  There are many different caves around Capri, but this one the water naturally glows this bright blue color.  And the guides in the boats sing inside the cave.  It’s a short little trip in there, but so worth it!

wine bar

We ate at this little wine bar that was highly recommended on some travel sights.  It’s not well known or advertised and driving by it you wouldn’t think to stop there.  It’s run by one guy who does it ALL.  There is no menu, he simply asks you if you want meat or fish, asks a couple questions on your taste preferences and pairs it with a wine.  SO delicious.  And we had the place all to ourselves as we sipped our wine and watched the sunset behind the mountain.  *sigh*

sunset

Our last night in Sorrento we ate on the patio of our hotel restaurant and got another beautiful sunset view.  We were so blessed to have been able to take this trip together.  This was really fun going back through the pictures and finally sharing our trip with yall!  Hope you enjoyed Smile
